| In an effort to re-activate the Akerselva river bank, the city of Oslo has commissioned several renovation projects targeting the most deteriorated areas along the river. Due to a growing demand for “official” outdoor skateboarding areas in the city center, public officials recommended Olafia Park as a suitable area for this purpose. Our proposal combines state-of-the-art Street Skateboarding with everyday life public space. The design seeks to tie to existing pedestrian flows, but also create new ones. Along this new network, we introduce Oslo’s top 10 skating spots, by adapting and replicating them on site. These new “obstacles” are laid out to create a continuous skating sequence which simultaneously performs as public space and fixed urban furniture: Benches, stairs, ramps, planters and green areas. The result is a public park for multiple users, where interaction and conflict between different city cultures is promoted, in an effort to preserve and sponsor urban behavior. |
