| Haugenstua centre was established in the 70ties together with a major housing effort in the suburbs of Oslo. The local centre contained all the local services and was a local meeting place. During the 90ties the centre deteriorated and its functions became obsolete. We proposed to turn the centre “inside out” creating new and interesting street conditions as the active public meeting point. This leaves great potential for the centre to completely be redefined and reprogrammed at the same time as it clearly identifies a difference between public and private space, a missing quality in the area. The new streets from the railroad station to the highway were designed as a gradient of 3 different public street types: from green romantic pedestrian parkway by the new housing, to local street with small shops and cafes, to finally the new regional mall by the highway. |
