| The Sketch proposal is a further research on the idea of the co-existence of a major fruit-and vegetable distribution centre and housing development at Økern in Oslo. Both programs are projected to 60.000m2 each and contain approx.100 distributors and 750 housing units. Flower and vegetable distribution are given a new access directly from the main road creating a separate access for all heavy load traffic partly under terrain. The local neighborhood road can then be dedicated to the market sales and the housing area. The housing is a combination of two-storey row houses and 8 storey small towers with green roofs to filter storm water for use in the fruit gardens and down to the local river that will be reopened to optimize its capacity. The compact organization of the housing leaves large amounts of public green areas for Oslo’s biggest fruit and vegetable garden, complementing the housing courtyards that are thematically planted with fruit trees to enhance identity. Creating a biogas waste plant for the whole urban area on the site is also under consideration. |
