| Megamonstermuseum - or how to imagine a museum today is the title of Tone Hansens book which is the final part of her research fellowship project at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Hansens`s main assertion is that the museums as we know them today still have a normative influence and are attractive as meeting places, but its function is under pressure and is being challenged from many directions. Hence, it is an urgent matter to secure the museums whose structure still retains a measure of openness. We were asked to illustrate a vision for a new museum today, in Oslo that functions on the premises of the artists. The project illustrates a Centre for Contemporary Art next door to the Central Station in Oslo, inside the former post terminal. Maximum openness is provided with a public path crossing the whole building on all levels connecting to artist hotel and studios, roof terrace, auditoriums, seminar rooms, restaurants and exhibitions spaces. |
